At the end of this article are instructions for joining us on zoom using your normal phone.

Today’s ‘Guest Writer’ is David Walton, who through the wonders of Zoom is able to join us on a Sunday, even though he now lives in Cornwall.

David writes:

For those of us who are knocking on a bit in years some of us may be able to recall an old pop song by the group 'Take That' titled 'Everything changes but you', but the older I get the more I have come to realise that in reality we are all changing all of the time, we are all physically ageing for sure, but also our personalities slowly evolve and many of our hopes and dreams will come and go and change and our outlook and attitudes will alter as we journey through this life that God has set out for us.

Friendships will ebb and flow, some friendships will deepen and some friendships will slowly drift apart as our lives and outlooks develop over time and as our physical situations change.  Even our closest relationships change over the years as life moves on.

Not only do we change but the world around us is continuously changing, one only has to think back just how much Turves Green and Longbridge have changed over the years, Car factory gone, roads widened, flats and Boys’ school demolished and replaced, new housing estates, new shops, new Church, extended Church, altered Church, new leaders, births, deaths, marriages, friends who have come and gone, pastors who have come and gone, everything changes.

Even the surrounding countryside is in a state of continuous change and flux as new trees are planted and ageing forests are felled, hedgerows altered, new fields created and farming methods and use of the land alters. The mountains and the coastline are constantly changing as a result of erosion and even the sky and stars and galaxies above us are constantly changing as their light takes millions of years to reach us here on earth.

So, whenever I think of a song title like 'Everything changes but you' I can only set my mind on my Lord and Saviour and thank him for his constant 'unchanging' love and friendship, a friendship and love which I could never 'earn' or 'expect' and certainly do not deserve to receive, Jesus is my rock, he is there in the good times and bad times and throughout all of life's ups and downs and 'constant' change all around.

Jesus, eternal and unchanging.

Jesus, the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and End.

David Walton

Faithful One, so unchanging; Ageless One, You're my Rock of Peace.

Lord of all I depend on You, I call out to You, again and again. I call out to You, again and again.

You are my Rock in times of trouble; You lift me up when I fall down.

All through the storm Your love is the anchor, My hope is in You alone
